on this CD.
The following pages cover different aspects of training:

the Boy Scouts of America. It also provides a limited amount of information
on each of the basic leadership training courses available for volunteer
leaders.
- BSA Online Learning Center
The Online Learning Center ( at http://olc.scouting.org/) is intended to be the "portal" to all
online "learning" materials. This will include not only courses
that users may take for credit on line, but also not-for-credit
instructional resources.

Building effective district and council training teams is always a challenging
task. The Highlights of District Volunteer Recruiting is provided as a resource
to help improve the process of recruiting the best teams possible.

Training Committee Guide
This purple covered committee guide provides the basic information all district
and council training team members need to be effective as trainers.
- Leadership Training
Awards
Scouting leaders who go through training have already shown
dedication to the youth in their care. Their further dedication
to the youth and the program of Scouting deserves recognition,
and leaders are encouraged to apply for the awards available
to them. These awards are intended to honor demonstrated performance
and tenure of trained leaders in all areas of the Scouting program.
- Philmont Training Center
Attendance at the Philmont Training Center is a special experience
in Scouting and requires an invitation from your local council
leadership.
- Supplemental Training Modules
Most BSA local councils offer additional training for Scout leaders, focusing
on outdoor skills, Youth Protection, and youth leadership development.
At the national level, a number of training courses are conducted each
summer at the Philmont Training Center in northern New Mexico. Courses
focus on everything from teaching outdoor skills to working with the troop
committee. They are designed to give additional information on specific
program areas.
- Support Information
The following documents are provided to answer questions that may be asked
during training events. Having the documents available for reference may
facilitate the learning process.
- Language of Scouting, The
The Language of Scouting provides information about the terms
and style associated specifically with Scouting (the "language
of Scouting") and grammar, spelling, and style norms used
by the Custom Communication Division at the national office of
the Boy Scouts of America.
- Training Management
This section will contains a limited collection of information focused on
managing the training process. It will grow and evolve over time in quality
and quantity of content.
- Videos
This collection of Scouting related Quicktime videos are provided for possible
use during training events. If you require the Quicktime player it is located
in the folder [ Software_Programs ]
- Wood Badge Presentations
In 2001, the new Wood Badge for the 21st Century was introduced. It was developed
for all Scouters: Cub Scout leaders, Boy Scout leaders, Venturing leaders,
and council and district leaders. The focus is on leadership skills, not
outdoor skills. The first part of the new Wood Badge course reflects unit
meetings, while the second part of the course uses a troop camping activity
as its delivery model.
- Youth Related Information
Leadership training of youth leaders in Scouting offers opportunities to
affect the lives of many Scouts. These resources are focused on training
youth.
This CD is a collection of
information on training and Scouting in general intended to
help volunteer leaders in their efforts
to train Scouting volunteers when access to the Internet is not
available. Often training is still being conducted in locations
where Internet access is not easily available. As many resources
as possible have been placed directly on this CD eliminating
the need for an Internet connection to access the resource.
There
is a folder named "Software_programs" that contains the reader
programs that will allow you to open files on this CD. The
reader programs include: Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, MS Excel,
MS Power Point, and Apple's QuickTime.
